Beeping???

I never heard my boat beep like this while its running. I was idling out the Spring creek arm at Blue Marsh today, the alarm beeped twice. I shut the motor down and re-started it back up. All was good. When the key is turned it gives one beep to let me know the oil pump is working. Why it beeped twice that time I have no idea. Any ideas?

Re: Beeping???

I had a Johnson outboard that had the VRO system and the horn was in the control. It would beep when I turned the ignition on and would beep when it was running when the oil was down to around 1/4 left as a reminder.
I had the remote tank since it held 2 gal and several times I had to clean out the float because it was beeping and the container was full. My engine also used the same horn to warn of a overheating situation, but that was a steadier tone.

If it happened when you were idling and the oil is OK and the engine wasn't running hot I wouldn't worry to much about it.

Good Luck

My ability to remember lyrics from songs of the 60's far exceed my ability to remember why I walked into the kitchen

Re: Beeping???

Some have systems that beep if the engine is overheating or there are other problems.

Do you have the owner's manual?

There are two ways to be fooled. One is to believe what isn't true; the other is to refuse to believe what is true.

Yeah, last night I found the manual. I could not find it, so I made this post for a little help, then found it. It doesn't say anything about two beeps. So, Ill put this under erratic operation, loose battery connection. For those that have a Johnson motor with electric start and VRO2 system.

1. Horn sounds rapid short pulses that vary with engine speed - No oil flow from VRO2 pump.

2. Horn sounds once every 20 seconds - Low oil level in VRO tank.

3. Horn sounds continuously - Engine overheat.

4. Erratic operation - Loose battery connections.

Thanks guys!
