Tilt Assist

Trying to get my boat on the water, and now this! Jeez! Anybody ever have a tilt assist piston go bad? The motor locks in place, but doesn't always stay in that position, moves about an inch or so. It used to have a lift assist stroke, but now I have the full weight of the motor to lift up and down. Biggest worry is about using the motor in reverse and it not staying locked down. Because it will lift up really fast if the motor is revved up. Or if the bottom hits something and the motor flies upward.

What kills me is the price of this part! $576 for a new piece?!?!? I did find used ones, but I really don't trust how long it will last. Anybody ever have one repaired?

Re: Tilt Assist

Unless they are closed formed any hydraulic shop should be able to rebuild it.

Re: Tilt Assist

That's the problem. After doing many internet searches, it seems that they are not repairable. I was trying to see if anybody on here has. But, instead of replacing that piston, the best way would be to install a power trim and tilt from CMC. The PT-130 is just a few bucks more than the factory replacement. I just can not believe that part costs that much.

Yep! Been there, they were one of the first web sites I visited. Just crazy the price they want for this part!

Re: Tilt Assist

Ok, I found the part for $470. Bad news, regardless of the PT&T system this part needs to be attached and in working order. Thanks for the responses.
