DIY canoe rack

I've been using a wood canoe rack I made many years ago that slips into the bed of my P/U truck. It has about rotted away and I'm thinking about building one out of PVC pipe and fittings for the same purpose. Does anybody have any pictures of designs they've come up with, especially one that extends over the cab?

Thanks for your input, buckinnuts. I'm looking strictly for a rack to carry a canoe, though. That design isn't quite what I'm looking for but it sure does point out how many PVC fittings would be required. Perhaps my idea isn't as cost efficient as I first thought.

PVC will deteriorate with exposure to the sun. And it gets brittle in cold. Sch 80 would hold up better then the sch 40 found in most stores.
blackpowder likes this.

I would just make another set out of wood and store it out of the elements when not in use. My Dad made a set 30 years ago and they're still holding up.
