Night time kayaking

Quote:
All paddle-power boats, on the water from dusk to dawn, must have a hand held light as minimal equipment to signal their presence to other boaters. A waterproof flashlight or headlamp is best.
Anybody know of any addition requirements for after dark kayaking?

Re: Night time kayaking

depends upon where your are. In the intercostal, get all the lights you can carry. on a pond or a small lake a flash light will do.
Remember, don't obey the law, just take the maximum safety standard where every you are.

If you don't legally require a light and you ware cut inbtwo by a 300hp ski boat...you didn't have enough light.

The legal requirement is the MINIMUM required!!!

Re: Night time kayaking

A headlamp is a valuble light in addition to the navigation lights.

Re: Night time kayaking

I have a headlamp but it's kind of blinding...but it does have a red night vision mode that isn't too bad. I want to pick up one of those "Kayalite" (stern lights) because I think I will be doing a bunch more of this night kayaking.

I would reccomend a GPS....it's not all that hard to get twisted around on a lake at night.
