Only ever owned four boats, but I have learned a little. If it has sat idle for more than one season. even if stored properly, you are going to sink some more money into it for it to run correctly. Funny things happen to idle boats. Bring a scratch awl or icepick with you when you look at it, poke the floors, transom, any funny looking spot. If it sinks in you have problems. If the seller denies you the icepick test, turn and run, he is hiding something ! Have the seller run the motor on earmuffs for 15 minutes at least. Look for signs of overheating, make sure the controls shift into forward and reverse and back without issues. Pull the dipstick, any sign of milky oil, turn and run. Thats a good start !
