Father's Day on the water

My wife and kids took me out on opossum lake today. My son and wife finally got to use their new sundolphin Camino 8 ss kayaks, and my autistic daughter and I took the dog in the canoe. The combination of my daughter and the dog in the canoe was very challenging. We figured out that it is much easier if she sits on the floor of the canoe, instead of on the seat. And the dog has to learn to be still.
My daughter weighs 200 pounds and has no balance at all, so having her lower in the canoe works much better. It's all a learning curve, but we will figure it out.
I hope everyone has as good a day as I did.

Psweigle –

Sounds like a great Father’s Day on the water

I was in the same boat (pun intended) with incorporating a dog with other people in the canoe. I bought a fold up chair from Cabelas called the Gobble Lounger. This style seat keeps the user very close to the ground, lowering your center of gravity in the boat. Also, the four individual feet of the seat allow you to clear the center rib and any horizontal ribs on the floor of the canoe.

In a standard canoe with a seat in front and the rear, the person in the middle can move this lounger seat to the best location in the center for weight distribution and keeps them from sitting on the floor. (Keeps the dry as well) In our case, daughter is usually in the middle, and my wife or dog is in the front.

The seat is very comfortable, folds up and also works great as a general camp chair

Cabela’s current model is called the Hunting Lounger

Another similar seat on Sportsman’s Guide is the HuntRite Long Beard Lounger

There are probably other similar chairs out there as well.

Wishing you more time on the water!

That is an awesome idea. I'm going to do just that. Thanks a lot.
