Newbie to (jon)Boating

Hey everyone...looking for a couple tips and advice as I'm new to this entire part of the outdoor world...

I just picked up a 1542 Riveted Jon boat and a Harbor Freight Trailer(both new). I've become addicted to waterfowl hunting over the last few years so I felt it was time to take the next step!

The set up is a the Jon with 2 seats bolted on, some type of floor so I'm not standing on the beams, a Cabela's type blind, 70lb thrust Trolling motor and a waterproof storage box. I'm into the boat for almost 2K$.

Is this something I should look to have insured? Is it worth it?
What kind and weight of anchor does anyone recommend?
How water worthy is this thing? My use will only be in flooded timber and small calm lakes...but I would like to know where the limit is and what the boat can and can't do/withstand

Anyone else with a similar setup with any advice?

I wouldn't put a boat in the water without some insurance, especially liability.

Re: Newbie to (jon)Boating

Typically, your homeowners policy will extend liability coverage if the boat is less that 16' and no larger than a 25HP motor. Check w/ your agent
