Grouse in Maine!

We're pumped!! A few more weeks until the season opens in Maine. Heading up with the Mrs and our oldest English Setter for Grouse/woodcock action and to get in some fly fishing too. The first week of the season is calling and the Eustis/Rangeley/Stafford area has a nice bunch of birds.

Re: Grouse in Maine!

We got into the birds!! Flushed 29 grouse, shot at 14 and bagged 9. Saw 8 woodcock, shot at 4 and bagged 3. Our oldest English Setter was amazing!! He stayed inside 35 yards and circled the woods nicely for us. Had a few productive points on his first grouse and doodles!! Took the Ithaca Flues 20g, 2 1/2" with 26" barrels and the Franchi AL 48 Super 28g. Looking forward to hunting birds there again. I'll post pix when I move them to my cpu. Plenty of food in the woods and swamps. Locals said bird numbers were down from last year due to a very wet spring. The woodcock flight didn't happen yet either as weather was still mild in Canada. The lodge will have 4 new mounts and a bunch of new tail fans!! Good times!!

Stackbarrel where were you guys hunting in Maine? I just got back from a week up there and same thing had a great time, we bagged 10 grouse and 7 doodles had some very tired pups when I got home, They told us the bird numbers were down because of the rain but still quite a few around Jackman

Re: Grouse in Maine!

We hunted the Eustis area. Thousands of acres of timber company property. We stayed at an outfitter who is from our area of NEPA. Lake and Woods Outdoor Adventures. Outstanding people, great food and a lot of fun hunting!

Re: Grouse in Maine!

Sorry for the skewed images. They're oriented properly on my picturetrail. I have no idea what happened?
