There is a lively discussion going on in the Small Game forum with regard to this report.

The crux of it is

1) 80% of grouse in the study that were intentionally exposed to the west nile virus would have died from it

2) The species of mosquito that carries the virus is found primarily in urban areas rather than in areas where grouse inhabit.

3) It is still unknown how much of the grouse population is being exposed to the virus. The results from testing the blood samples of grouse harvested this year have not yet been published.
