Re: "Surf and Turf" for Trout Camp

Making me hungry...

My freezer has tons of good turf, come may and June hope to have tons of good surf. Love the combo.

Trouble with shrimp is they shrink especially on a grill or fire, that is OK if feeding a family but I would worry about that a bit in a trout camp full of guys.

How about crabcakes cooked in cast iron on the fire? You can always make them with fish (trout) if the crab is too expensive. Kind of have to cook them twice though and it is a little labor intensive.

Take a cast iron frying pan, stick of butter, salt and pepper, and matches and head to your favorite native stream!

Anybody can shoot deer on the farm ground....You earn it in the mountains.......

We like to do "Field and Stream" instead of surf and turf.

Deer loins slow roasted on the grill next to some fresh trout, or better yet, fresh walleye!

Re: "Surf and Turf" for Trout Camp

Last year we used a turkey deep fryer. Use beer to boil off clams, mussels, kilbasa, and corn. When its almost done throw some shrimp on top and steam until its done. I'm not a sea food guy but I ate everything but the mussels and clams. The pot fed 14 of us along with some sides.

Shrimp wrapped in bacon with a piece of pineapple. These are unreal. The combination of flavors just works
