Building a camp....lots of questions!

Hi all,

My wife and I are contemplating building a camp on family land this summer. This will be a dry camp(no water/sewage) and no electric. Basically, it'll be a box with a few windows and a door, a few bunk beds and counter tops and a wood stove. I don't even know where to begin though!

I know how to build it, that isn't the concern. It's more about permitting, codes, and all that stuff. I don't know what I can and can't do. Who do I contact? Where do I find the information? Can anyone here offer guidance on the codes and such for this type of project?

Thanks,

Jason

Would that be the 'building code inspector' listed here:

If you put it on skids, isn't it basically a shed.

Don't see any need for a permit.

The deer didn't disappear.... the 250,000 guys who used to walk around and make the deer move did.

Just remember once you talk to the county there is no backing up, you will have to comply with their rules.

That's kind of the way I understand it. However, there is a size limit here in Warren regarding sheds on skids....I think it's 10x12 or something like that. That's what I need to check into, but I didn't know where to look.

Re: Building a camp....lots of questions!

So call them and say. I was "thinking about" building a shed. How big can I build it with out needing a permit?
At this point all they need to know is you need storage.
once you get that info. you can decide how to proceed

Re: Building a camp....lots of questions!

Jason I know your camp will be in a different county and twp, but i went thru it all here with my place, including an outhouse..so if I can help ya e-mail me at the addy you have, easier for me to talk bakc nad forth there.

Truthfully i'd consider getting a pre-made delivered on a flatbed...it gets you right to the fun parts IMO. On skids, no change in RE taxes, no permits (likely), just don't tap the foundation into the ground or make it permenantly attached.

I was right up front above everything i did there...called the TWP alot, and sewage officer i did not want any problems. i mean the place gets its picture posted alot if you know what I mean...LOL

E-mail me if you want.

Re: Building a camp....lots of questions!

If a dry camp is all you need, go with the prefab shed. You pick it out, pay the bill, and tell them where to put it. Call the code man and make sure of all details first, then you have his respect. Go behind his back, he will be on yours for good. Its nice to work on the inside at your leisure, and by buying a prefab, you don't have to coun t on any help, MHO.
