Help re Allegheny River near West Hickory/Tidioute

This post could go a bunch of places, but I'll try here. My family has a camp near Tionesta. I've been able to get my canoe on the river near West Hickory and Tionesta a few times over the last few years. I really want to get to know the stretch between Tidioute and West Hickory. At a minimum, I'm planning to float it next summer. As my boys get older (now 5 and 1) I hope to spend more time up in that area.

In addition to a canoe trip, I've also wondered whether a light 14' jon with a short shaft tiller outboard could work there and allow me to explore without the need to have a shuttle vehicle. I've seen several boats with outboard jets and obviously that would be ideal, but probably out of the question. I recently launched at West Hickory and my canoe and 2HP did okay to get back up river to the launch and up river a bit to the first set of riffles above West Hickory, but it just doesn't have enough power to get up through there, even if the depth is okay.

I'd love to talk with anyone who knows that area of the river well and preferably one who boats it. Thanks.

I personally have a jet. A Jon boat with a tiller will work you can trim it up a little to keep from damaging the prop. Or just pull it up through if it's a small enough boat. If it's your only option to get out then you'll find a way to make it work.

Even my jet has limitations. Summer pools and weeds often restrict travel . Once in awhile I still wish I had my prop especially with the weeds and grass that breAk loose from the bottom several times of the year

I realize I'm just going to have to do the float trip down from Tidioute to find out for myself, but can you tell me if you can take a propped outboard up from West Hickory to Tidioute? Pulling the boat up through/around one or two shallow runs would be fine, but if it's more than that, I'd probably deem that trip not-doable and leave it to float down in a canoe.
