Starting my new tent

I have laid out the drawings for a new tent. I'm going with a tipi style and using a wood stove. The stove I had built from my drawing about 15 years ago, it is sheet steel with two adjustable vents on the door. You can shut it down quick! Making my own stove jack from aircraft metal instead of the silicone coated fiberglass. If my sewing goes well the tent will be 10' X 10' and have 8 1/2 foot peak. Sewn in bottom, adjustable vent port, #10 zipper on a six foot door. I have always used army duck cotton canvas, but this one is to be made with coated canvas and light weight. Still the military type tent material. Outside poles set-up, I just don't like center pole tents. The material "should" be in this week. About a week to sew a tent working slow and careful, everything double stitched. Needs to withstand winds and snow.

As they say - this thread isn't nothing without pictures!

Is your position a short term gain - or a long term loss? Separate the issues.

Re: Starting my new tent

As soon as I get sewing I'll start the photos. The poles will be 12 foot connected at the end with a bolt, short piece of heavy strap and hook to hold onto the tent peak straps. Need to get a 4" elbow and damper today.

Re: Starting my new tent

Indians were better at this than me. I hope to camp at ANF and State Forest 50 to 100 miles from home. When finished making the tent I will set it up in the back yard for a couple days, burn the stove and make any adjustments needed. Then a shake down trip close by for a coyote hunt. I do not plan very far ahead, road conditions control most of my camp sites. I have two industrial Singer sewing machines greased and oiled ready to go!
