Question.....would you?

Getting ready to decide on a heat source for my camp. Camp is 14x28. Would you (1)go with a 30,000 btu ventless wall unit and use space heaters to supplement, or (2) baseboard heat with ventless propane unit as back up? Or neither. A wood burner is out....at my age I don't want to fool with wood. Thanks for any suggestions.

Re: Question.....would you?

Our camp is 32 X 32 and we have a ventless wall unit and it will cook you out of the camp even in the coldest weather. If you decide to go that way you will not need space heaters to supplement.

Re: Question.....would you?

Our camp is really a small 2 story house with a 15x20 ish living room area, hallway, dining area (12x15) and kitchen 10x15. We have (2) Ventless wall heaters in our camp. One in the living room and one in the dinning area. We have no heat up stairs. The camp stays nice and warm even through the coldest winters. Upstairs gets cold but most of the guys sleep with the windows open regardless of the season so heat isn't the problem.

Re: Question.....would you?

ventless propane is very efficient and pretty close to trouble free. As for baseboards, I'd look instead at the compact electric wall heaters they have now. About 120 bucks, requires about 9" x 12" of your wall and produces the btu's that an old style 8 foot baseboard did. Has it's own thermostat built in and takes about a half hour to install assuming your power is already run to where you want it. We put three in different rooms where the natural gas heater doesnt get to and they did a great job and didn't make a large electric bill.

Re: Question.....would you?

Our camp is an old one room schoolhouse, heated by a natural gas furnace, with blower on top, so it needs electric to run. Just bought a natural gas, 30,000 BTU ventless wall mount for backup, incase the electric goes out.

Re: Question.....would you?

pellet stoves are nice. easier to fuel than standard wood burner... no chopping etc. just buy some bags of pellets and you're set.

Re: Question.....would you?

Have propane ventless heaters and they are 10 years old and use them as back up to electric baseboard and a wood stove and never had a problem.
Thing about pellet vs wood stove is when power goes out the pellet stove is useless.

Good luck
