swimming holes

Finally able to get some work done on the camp this weekend. New front porch, walls inside and hopefully about 4 trees down outside. Got a crew coming down to do the work and with it being hot thought they might like to go swimming but I dont know were any swimming holes are at in Tionesta. Any help would be appriciated.

Re: swimming holes

Any wide spot on the road along Tionesta Creek - if you are up by Cougar Bob's just upstream is Frog rock.. just look for a big rock in the middle of the creek that is painted green like a frog!

Re: swimming holes

Frog rock is a good one and there are a bunch more on the Tionesta. Mayburg Bridge is good. Newtown is just downstream from Cougar Bobs. Just drive downstream till you see the old bridge pier. Theres a huge hole about 1/4 mile downstream from where Jug Handle run comes in too. Someone used to put up a rope swing over the water at that one. Havent been down there lately though. Another good spot is just upstream from where Ross Run flows in. Look for a wide, well beaten footpath about 2-300 yards above Ross Run. BTW, The water was very comfortable at Mayburg last weekend. We were looking for a calm place for the grandaughter to learn to kayak and it was perfect.

If you like colder water (not me!) There's a popular one on Coon Creek just downstream from Guitonville/Muzette road by Game Lands 24 gun range

That one is about ten miles from Tionesta

Re: swimming holes

I remember back in the 60s and 70s swimming above the old Kellettville bridge. On any given day there could be 50 or more people in the water. The good old days.

Re: swimming holes

Jug Handle is a great hole. Swam there last summer and the rope swing is still there. Just drive downstream from the Kelletville campground and pull over where the river cuts sharply back to the road. Pull over there and walk upstream about 200 yards. Might mention there were about 50 large turtles on the surface while we were fishing that hole.
