Allegheny River near West Hickory and Tionesta

Whats the river like up there now? We plan a float trip every year this weekend and I assumed the water isnt the best right now with the rain we have been getting?

Has Kinzua been let out?

Thanks.

2F for a while...

Those river gauges are interesting, but I don't know enough about them to judge river conditions based on those readings.

I was up there last weekend. Franklin was high and muddy west hickory was high but not as muddy still floatable but I dont think the fishing would be that great. If you wanted to go up above warren the river is high and just a little stained. They were calling for showers all week but I dont think it is going to be like last week so everything might be ok around hickory.

I am looking at the tailrace from my porch and it is not high. They have been holding the water but I expect it to change if it keeps raining. West Hickory may be a different story.

Re: Allegheny River near West Hickory and Tionesta

Just came home from camp this morning. Did not get that close to the river today but yesterday it was very high. I did look at Tionesta creek, the Clarion, Redbank, Mahoning and the Kiski and they were all the color of chocolate and I'd say that any float on them would be seriously dangerous. Quite possibly life threatening as much from debris in unusual places as the very strong current. Again though, my look at the Allegheny was from the Tionesta creek Bridge on the south end of town. That could've made my view of the Allegehny seem worse than it really is. Was planning a kayak trip myself and have all but given up on the idea.

Kinzua Man, I floated past your little white chair at the bottom of the steps on friday. River was actually quite nice from the dam down to Glade bridge once you went past the Conewango it gets pretty turbid. Fishing was kinda slow, but I had a 7 yr old and a 10 yr old in the boat.

Looking at the water levels, it seems the upper allegheny was mostly spared. Maybe our float trip will just get moved upstream, way upstream!

I'm wondering if they are holding water back at the dam due to the Regatta being held in the Burgh this weekend?

The corps website only has Kinzua lake about a foot higher than last week if I'm reading it correctly
