The Flood in central PA

WOW! It took me 6 1/2 hours to get to Cross Fork, Potter County -- and I'm amazed I even made it at all through the high water. It started in Punxsutawney, and got worse as I made it to DuBois.

Even the detours had us driving through water as high as the guard rails in a number of places. Not all cars and trucks made it through. One older gentleman on a motor cycle was washed off the road and stuck against the rail, with the rescue team trying to figure out how to get him.

I was lucky to make it to Interstate 80 to go to Lock Haven, and on to camp --- where, by the way, the streams are running low and clear! If I was not in a full-sized truck I would not have made it.

Luckily, I was ahead of my wife and step daughters who were in a Toyota Highlander, and another couple also coming up driving a Hyundai Santa Fe. I phoned them when they were eating lunch at a restaurant as you come into Punxy, and got them to go back and circle around and get on I-80. I fear they would not have made it through the high water. Heck - I'm amazed I made it...and I'm wondering if we will make it back home...?

It made national news - but I don't know what it's like in that area now -- and if the waters are lower or higher...

Any flood/road reports would be appreciated!

Re: The Flood in central PA

The local news channel said this morning that it started to recede but not a lot. I am trying to contact a couple people I know in DuBois to find out how things are and if they need help. I would like to drive up tomorrow if everything is passable by then. I will keep you posted if I hear anything.

Glad you made it safely. How much rain? Here in SE PA we have been getting pounded everynight. Alot of rain real quick. Has it been the same in the rest of the state?

Did you guys see the picture of the Camp on Anderson Creek, Rockton Mountain?? I'll upload if I can figure it out.

I noticed some other have notes about using photobucket to put up pics. Any other ways to go about it?

Punxsy through Brookville is not a problem . 119 is closed at Sykesville though. Lots of local info on www.godubois.com on the message boards. Road info pics ect. Things could change as another storm is brewing right now.

Re: The Flood in central PA

I saw the news last night and this morning - both local and national covering the flooding. Being in Cross Fork, a lot of news is not forthcoming, so any updates I can get here are greatly appreciated.
