Gas Fridge ?

I bought a camp in August. The fridge was working fine then. I saw my tank was down to 30 % so I called the gas co. for a fillup and they screwed around until I ran out of gas. (They are no longer my gas co.) I finally got the tank refilled in early Oct. Now the fridge won't get cold. I cleaned the orifice and have good steady flame, still no go. I have turned it upside down a couple of times and even took it for a ride last weekend in hopes of clearing a blockage in the pipes. Any sugestions on what else to try?

Re: Gas Fridge ?

not being smart, but did you check the thermostat setting? when you turned it upside down did you wait until it stopped gurgling until up turned it right side up? Is the flame a nice blue color? If these are all OK I have no idea.

Re: Gas Fridge ?

I've had a similar problem. Seems like when I shut it down in the winter then restart in the spring, it seems to have a hard time getting going. I turn it off and restart, seems to work. Sort of like when a computer freezes, shut it off, pull the plug or battery and do a reboot.

Re: Gas Fridge ?

For folks with a gas fridge...

Do you keep it on and burning all of the time, even when you are not there? If you leave on Wednesday and come back on Saturday, or if you leave for 2 weeks and then go back?

Re: Gas Fridge ?

I had a 1940's gas fridge as a spare. (came with the house) I had it running only a few times during some summers. Never had a problem getting it to run, even after a couple years off. They are very finicky about being level. Mine was bolted to the concrete floor. Same for the fridge in my Motorhome. On gas, it had a hard time working unless it was almost dead on level.

Re: Gas Fridge ?

Did you notice an ammonia smell at any time?

If you did………unfortunately, the fridge is toast.
