what is a hunting camp

Hi, I am new to hunting and was wondering what a hunting camp actually is? I noticed some are on small plots. Are they located next to leased hunting land?

Any info on hunting camps would be appreciated.
Thanks
Steve

Re: what is a hunting camp

Just read this forum and you will figure it out. To explain it would take .......well, it would take a long time. In a nutshell it's a place that friends and family gather to enjoy each other and the outdoor persuits. A hunting camp can take many forms, cabins, tents, trailers, campers. You name it. They can be on private land or public. Usually, there is hunting of some type involved. But some just go to enjoy others company.

Hope this helps some. Read on!!!

Re: what is a hunting camp

This may sound like a rather odd answer but I feel compelled to give it anyway. A hunting camp is not a specific type building or a specific amount of land.

A hunting camp is a place where hunters old and young alike look forward to going every year just to escape the realities of every day living. All is left behind when one arrives at hunting camp. It is usually the same or close to the same group of people every year. The first to arrive usually open camp up and wait for the rest. On occasion there is a ďnewĒ guy which all the originals hope fit in with the original crowd. Sometimes they do and sometimes they donít. Usually the ones that donít are not invited back.

Hunting camp is as much an experience as it is a place. One can not adequately describe the experience. One has to experience it themselves in order to be able to comprehend it.

In answer to your question--- A hunting camp can be anything from a small rickety old building to a large cabin. It can have running water, electricity and modern plumbing or have no water or electricity. It can have a small lot of land or a large parcel of land.

Re: what is a hunting camp

Two outstanding answers! Nothing really to be added to them.

As the above posters said, it's more about the people and camaraderie than the type of building. I would think having a good amount of available hunting land nearby, whether owned, leased or permitted, is a pretty important requirement.

Eh...wot?

I understand the philosophical view, I'm just curious about where you can find them, minimum cost to start etc. and any other facts. Any good places online to look for them? I think being able to have a place to go to take family and friends hunting or vacation would be awesome. But i dont have tons of money.

Re: what is a hunting camp

I agree with CMiles...........................
Ours is a large Outfitters tent with a wood stove, few chairs, picnic table, a few lanterns, and a coffee maker. We hunt 6 to 20+ guys out of it.
That is my camp!!

Re: what is a hunting camp

First you need to figure out where you want camp to be. Consider travel time required to get there. Visit the area. Log some miles. Take note of any for sale in your desired area.
We can help you more when you have the area figured out. Check the sticky thread above "help fellow hunting pa'rs finding a camp". That will get you started.

Re: what is a hunting camp

camp/hunting camp is what you make of it. it can be a nightmare or a joy. our family camps are more summer than hunting.its where everyone can go and throw away the troubles of life and relax. many weekends at ours are either spent on, in or just sitting with a cooler watching the water go by. where you go and what you do are going to be up to you. make the memories for yourself if you can

if you bought it, a trucker brought it
