Next tent project

It is in the paper stages, and most of it is in the trash can. I don't want a company manufactured pop-up camper, but one I make from a small flat pull along trailer. Just big enough for a little wood stove, cot, and table. All canvas cover with fold out plywood sides. Neat package when towing. Has anyone seen ones like this? I would rather copy a home made one then to reinvent one.

Re: Next tent project

Grandpa used a pick up backend part of frame, welded a tounge with hitch. Since he and his buddies went up in the Colorado mts for elk they needed ground clearance. Where the gas tank was he mounted fresh water tank, framed a metal floor and short sides. Built in side compartments for propane and generator. Some sort of small diameter pipe frame for tent . Tent was sewn by Granma out of old military canvas, heavy stuff. Looked like a minuture wall tent. Flip up bed platforms, small sink ,stove and heater up front all built in. Compartments all over. I think the cover for travel was a piece of laced on canvas. This was in the early 70's. If I can find a pic I'll post it

Re: Next tent project

hard to beat a cotton "A" frame or wall tent for comfort and easy set up. spent many, many days and nights in a 10x10 and 12x12 "A" frame. wood stove will cook you out. also did alot of winter camping in them. just a thought.

Re: Next tent project

Blackpowder, you are correct! I have made and camped in these. I will be camping in one this season, wall tent and the other one is for sale now with a possible buyer.
