Alarm System in a cabin

Do any of you have security systems on your cabins? We are looking at some cabins to buy that do not have electricity so I'm not sure if we could even get a security sytem. I saw online some system that are low draw and run on batteries, but they just sound an alarm and don't alert the police. I was thinking about a small solar panal to supply power to the security system, but that may be going overboard. These locations are so remote that even if the police are notified, it would be a while before they arrived and the bad guys would be long gone. Any advice on security sytems for when we would be away from camp are appreciated.

I know three buddies that own cabins and all of them have had it broken in to at least once over the years and/or had it vandalized. Is that something that is inevitable when you have a cabin in a remote location? It is a shame that there are idiots in this world that think it is "fun" to destroy another persons property.

Re: Alarm System in a cabin

I was thinking about one until pa. state police told me if it malfuntioned so many times i would be accesed. Search for cameras i found a neat one that looked like a clock radio but had a camera likke our trail cams that would take pics with out flash. Hardly anyone will steal a clock radio or they had a bible with a camera in it. tyhe price was around 400.00.

We thought about it, but the nearest PSP is 30 minutes out if they left the second it went off. Since we made nice with the farmer/neighbor near us we have had zero trouble.

I still believe in the protected by Smith and Wesson rule....if that don't work just don't keep anything of value in there, and of course pour something nasty in a bottle of booze and leave it there for the taking...but that is just me, bottoms up scum.

Re: Alarm System in a cabin

That would really set them off causing retaliation, not a good crime prevention technique.........
