Sealer for Hemlock

There are some hemlock boards on my camp. I noticed they are getting some holes in them from the bugs. The holes are about the size of a pencil, which is a bit smaller then the boring bee's holes, but I don't know what bug it is. Is there a sealer that I could put on the wood to stop the insects and if so what do you recommend?
Thanks...

Re: Sealer for Hemlock

Well, I would just try any high grade polyurithane. Are the holes in any other wood surfaces or just the hemlock? Any evidence of dust, dead bug bodies, cacoons, b roken off insect wings? This sounds like Carpenter Ants. If so you need to act aggressively and call in a profesional exterminator. They can hollow out the interior of a floor and you will not know it until you step on it and end up in the basement.

Good night Chesty, wherever you are......

I did find shavings... they looked just like the shavings you would find in a hand wound pencil sharpener you had in school.

Re: Sealer for Hemlock

Everyone around me sprays crude oil on their hemlock siding to insect proof it.

I don't have ducks. I don't have rows. I have squirrels. And they're drunk.

Sounds expensive at almost a hundred bucks a barrel.

Re: Sealer for Hemlock

How about used oil?
Maybe I should paint it. Any recommendations on a good bug proof paint or sealer?

Re: Sealer for Hemlock

I used the stuff with Teflon in it, works very good, been 6 years since I've done it. Olympic
