Camp with Trout Stream

I always wanted a camp that has a stream with native trout close by (say within 50 yds). I used to go to a camp in Cameron Co. that had such a stream real close. It seemed to add a lot to the whole camp experience. How many of you camp members have a camp that meets this criteria? Not looking for any GPS coordinates here, I'm just trying to get a feel to see if my desire is a "pipedream", or something that could one day become reality.
Thanks

Kettle Creek is in my back yard, and there are several brookie streams nearby - one within easy walking distance.

For stocked trout, we sit on the patio by the firepit, and when we decide to fish, we grab the rods from the rod rack, and walk down the stone steps I put into the creek! Sure is a nice asset to the place!

Re: Camp with Trout Stream

Be sure not to buy a camp that is NOT in the floodplain of a stream. So you don't get repeatedly flooded.

A friend of mine has a camp that is within easy walking distance of a nice wild trout stream. But it's NOT in the floodplain. It's on a hillslope well above the flood elevation.

That's the ideal situation. The walk to the stream is part of the enjoyment.

A lot of people want to be able to look right out the window and see the stream. But it's better to be further away and further UP!

Not just for safety reasons, but for maintaining the health of the stream. Where streams are lined with camps close to the banks, the streams are typically wrecked. People cut the vegetation, and pull downed trees out of the streams, etc., so the physical habitat just goes way down.

Re: Camp with Trout Stream

Wild Boy Run in Conrad, Pa crosses through my property and right next to my camp. It is just a small native brook trout stream that feeds into the East Fork of the Sinnamahoning Creek. I always catch and release a few brookies from the stream when I am up the camp. It flows over its banks a little during some really bad storms. My first floor is 3 feet off of the ground, so I have nothing to worry about. It is great to be able to hear the stream rolling along as you are lying in bed at night.

Re: Camp with Trout Stream

I had one for almost 20 years. I inherited the place, and it was on one of the best "big" trout creeks in Pa. Although it was not really a "camp", it was a nice cottage. I put it on the market with a realtor and it sold in 13 days for the asking price. Water seems to be a big criteria for alot of people searching for a place. Even if you can buy creek front property now, and use a camper until you can build, I would not hesitate.

Re: Camp with Trout Stream

Little Bear,
Your dream is alive and well however it may cost ya!
I live a stones throw away from Pine Creek in an area that never floods, up against SGL 208 and the Tioga State Forest. The stream front log cabin just down Lick Run form me is on the market for $350,000 and worth every penny.
Dreams arond here have become expensive, however there is still land you can purchase and build your own place.
We purchased and restored our place a little at a time, the 10 year project has definitely been worth the effort.
