Kids at Camp

Just wondering how many days you guys let your kids stay at camp for bear/ deer season and miss school. I know when I was still a pup my old man used to let me hunt first day of bear and I would get to stay at camp the whole first week of deer. I just wondered because I know a guy at our camp that brings his son and hunts first day of deer and leaves that evening and drives the whole way home so he wont miss school. I find that to be a bit much.

Re: Kids at Camp

Back in the day, if I didn't get drawn for a doe tag, dad would let me hunt Monday and Tuesday. If I got a doe tag I could hunt the first day of buck and then the three days of doe.

I don't have ducks. I don't have rows. I have squirrels. And they're drunk.

Re: Kids at Camp

Back in my day we didnt get the first day off as a holiday. So in order to go to camp for Buck ( 1 day ) your grades had better be good and you had to be on your best behavior. Then you could go to camp hunt that day and hometo go to school the next.Even though I only got to hunt the first day back then still alot of good memories. those were different times

Re: Kids at Camp

First & second day buck was always a school closed day. Dad would let me miss school Weds. We normally hunted till noon Weds & headed home. I think now Monday is the only day my local schools close for deer season.

Bear...didnt really get into it till my college days & then cuttin class was no big deal as long as i got the work done. When ur payin for your own tuition...you seem to somehow work things out.

Re: Kids at Camp

My school was always closed the first 2 days of rifle season and the first day of the old doe season. My parents let me miss 2 days during the last week of archery, a day for bear and another day for doe, assuming my grades were good.

Iím a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more I have of it.

Re: Kids at Camp

I had it pretty good, as long as my grades were up & I did not get into any trouble, and with the permission of the principal I was able to go to camp with my Uncles & Cousins & hunt the whole first week of buck.
