Camp Smoke House

During the past month I have been working on a smoke house project and this weekend I tested it. Works great now I plan to start smoking meat on most weekends. This coming weekend I plan to do 30 lb of jerky. In the future I hope to cure and smoke some hams. Next deer season I plan to smoke a half of a deer.

Very nice! How do you get the smoke from the fire box into the house?

Good night Chesty, wherever you are......

Re: Camp Smoke House

Looks great! Do you think you'll be able to keep temps down enough to cold smoke? I've been thinking about building one in the back yard. I was kicking around a similar design in my head, as well as a couple other idea, just haven't settled on one yet. Keep us posted with your results.

Its kind of a big deal.

I tested the temps this weekend and was able to maintain 75 by regulating the draft control on the doors. Also was able to increase to 185 to finsh off the ribs. I would say as long as the ambiant air temp is below 75 I will be able to regulate temps so I can cold smoke cured meat such as whole hams.

Very nice smoke house. This is the first time I've seen one like this. Definitely more elaborate then ours. I like it. It looks great.

Re: Camp Smoke House

Neat! My Mom has on ole cinderblock smokehouse that wouldnt take too much to get bak into operation. It just has a screened star shaped vent on door & small vent on roof peak. Hasent been used in 50 years(other than for storage) but you can still smell smoke. On my to do list.

You can see how to build them in the book "Back to Basics", and they work great.

Re: Camp Smoke House

Looks great. I would love to build something similar. Would you be willing to share how you built this? Send me a PM.
