Cross Fork this weekend

My buddy backed out, so I may be going alone. Who else will be up? Meet at Deb's for cold beverages? Or even better, hunt with me for grouse on Saturday over my 11 year old setter? This is likely his last year hunting, so we gotta go!

Note: If you are a regular here, my camp is open to you and family. Just let me know.

Re: Cross Fork this weekend

I was up 2 weeks ago, and it was looking good. The grouse opener is ALWAYS in stunning foliage. Of course, with all that distraction of the beautiful colors, who could blame me for missing those little brown rockets we call our state bird???

C'mon up, Peppy. No politics. Just deer, grouse, cards, and cold beverages! You are welcome at my camp!

Re: Cross Fork this weekend

Appreciate the offer Larry... I'd be there yesterday, but obligations have me elsewhere.

And trust me, I hate talking politics when I'm anywhere near the woods.

Re: Cross Fork this weekend

i keep saying i'm going to do a crossfork trip like we did as a kid. me and the boys drive up friday and camp in the back of the truck at ole bull and hunt up around little kettle somewhere and head back sunday. used to do that for spring gobbler and trout fishing back in the 70's. i haven't hunted up there in years though so i would almost be starting over. i love that area but it is a long drive from my place. almost 4 hours.

Re: Cross Fork this weekend

That is my stomping grounds up there pumpgun, our camp is in that area...spent my childhood there every other weekend. That was a 4.5 hr trip, gas was a nickel, Ok maybe .50..LOL

We use to fish a place we called the "sucker hole" on Kettle down behind the first Ole Bull sign now heading towards Crossfork from the 144/44 split, be 50 suckers for every trout in that hole. Did not matter much, we used night crawlers and caught them both.

I wish I was more of a spring turkey hunter, maybe 2012 is the year.

Re: Cross Fork this weekend

Have a great time Larry. Nothing nicer than Cross Fork, esp. this time of year. Wish I could take you up on your offer. Hunting grouse behind a dog is a as good as it gets.
