Opening Week of Turkey at Camp!

Well, Turkey Camp V started out on Wednesday, the 29th of April. Got everything opened up, warmed up, unpacked, and ready to go. Plans were to hunt, fish, split wood, and lay the concrete pad for the steps on the deck. Every thing got side-tracked the next day with 14 hours of rain. Cut up the last logs on Friday, and scouted for birds. Saturday had 3 gobblers going on distant ridges, but they didn't cooperate too well. Saturday afternoon, first log splitter begins to leak hydraulic fluid. Put that one on the backburner and rented another one. Got 10 logs split and that one began leaking also. Sunday, beautiful day, camp fires, mowed down some unruly blackberry bushes, and rested. Monday, birds sounding off again- this time the hens cut us off. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday not a peep. Got the pad for the steps poured in between Wednesday's 1 1/2" of snow and Friday's 2" of snow. Friday afternoon was spent catching some nice rainbows and browns on the Genesee River. Packed up Saturday morning (23*) and headed home. It was a great week!

Looks like first week of rifle season! I got excited there for a moment. Very nice camp to take your boots off and enjoy JD on the rocks.

Hey, great story and pic. Always fun to hear (and see) what's going on at camp. Thanks for sharing. Good to hear also that you were on to some birds; sorry you couldn't close the deal.

They were gobblin like crazy in Eastern Tioga this morning, till 8:00, then it's like they all turn Amish-- they don't answer or call!

Hey, what's a little snow up there in April (maybe not so much in May)?

Back in the late 70s mom and dad went up to camp for Easter. My uncle was drilling the field behind the place we had then, with oats. He was almost done and it started snowing heavily. Mom had Super 8 movies of it, flakes the size of tater chips.

IIRC they got about three inches of heavy, wet snow. Unc said that was the best oat crop he ever had.

Talked to my cousin near camp Thursday night. He said it's apparently still winter in Tioga County, as they've had a few snow squalls and temps are in the 20s at night. Headin' up in the morning.

Some folks' learnin' curves just look like circles...3A Camp/also hunt 4B

Glad you had a great time, nice picture of your camp. The weather can change rather quickly up in that area.

Very Beautiful camp. Any bad weather day at camp is better than a good day at work. Good luck with the rest of the turkey season.

Hittingguru, is your camp near the town of Genesee ? Your camp looks familiar.
