STAINING CAMP

GOING to camp this weekend to do some scouting work.question i have rough cut hemlock on my camp.A question on what is the best preservative i can use.I would like to keep the natural stain on this wood so it would have to be a clear product.

Re: STAINING CAMP

We used Thompson water sealer (oil based) and applied with a backpack sprayer. Took have about 3 hours and still looks great 4 years later.

Re: STAINING CAMP

We've had rough cut on ours for almost 25 years. Never put anything on it yet. Still looks great.

I have CDO, its like OCD but the letters are in alphabetical order the way they should be.

Re: STAINING CAMP

I have a hemlock log camp and use "Woodguard" product. It comes clear or colors. It's also a preservative and insecticide. Better to be brushed on then sprayed for better penetration. This product will last from 7-10 years before you need another application. Woodguard needs to be applied (for best penetration) when the temps are 75-85 degrees.
Good luck!

Re: STAINING CAMP

Used motor oil is good but you have to put it on lightly or it will look Black. I did a part of mine with this and it went on dark but looks good after aging. Spray it on in a cone pattern and it will be lighter. I was told it is a good preservative and prevents bugs.
