Leased land

Anyone own a camp on leased property? Not state leased. But you own a camp/trailor and pay an annual fee to a private land owner to be there. If so do you have any problems with type of arrangement or does it work well for you? Would you or wouldn't yu recommend it?

A promise made is a debt unpaid.

Re: Leased land

I have a camp on leased land. We have about 75 camps, very good group of people. Many only use the area a couple times per year as a few are there quite often. I would guess that the economy and gas prices are keeping many away. That is how I found my camp, the previous owner lived south of Pitt and was tired of the expense not only of upkeep but gas, etc. Our set up is great and would whole heartedly give it a yes vote. I certainly would read the rules/regs before signing. Ours are very common sense and easy to live by. It is also nice that I have Clear Creek SF and Allegheny NF at my back door. Good luck with your decision.

Re: Leased land

We had a camp cost us $500. per year , there were about 21 camps spread out over 10,000 acres in Clinton County was really a great place, good neighbors went up 3 or 4 times a year , all was well then the owner sold it over a year ago and everyone had to vacate by order of the new owner, so ow we are without a camp.and not anything we can do about it except look for a nother place.....

Re: Leased land

we do the lease thing so far no problems,

i think if the landowner sells they have to give you market price for your camp. what i been told anyway. our lease is dirt cheap imo. i love it

Re: Leased land

The owner is a widowed lady. I've been told that she has set something up that when she dies all camps on the property remain. Cost is ~$1000/yr. Still would have to pay taxes ~$250 and electric. Camp is 2 BR, 1 bath, kitchen, living room with all utilities and it is 20k.

Re: Leased land

Forgot to mention in my earlier post that our lease is $400 per year. We have electricity, taxes are about $50 per year, no water but spring down over hill and composting toilet. Only 30 miles from camp so we are there quite often.

Re: Leased land

My camp is on leased ground that is family owned. I've never hgad any problems. From what I understand, the property owner can't just take over your camp and make you leave. They would have to give you fair market value for the building. I pay around $300 a year for mine plus another $250 in taxes.

I don't have ducks. I don't have rows. I have squirrels. And they're drunk.
