Forkston, Pa flooding

I saw online that Forkston was heavily flooded again. I have been told that both bridges on Windy Valley Rd were destroyed and they are looking at atlest the middle of December before being opened again. My question is those with camps and homes in the area how did you make out? I hope that the damage was minimial. I am worried about those that had camps and homes along the creek. I hope you all are safe.

Re: Forkston, Pa flooding

I have camp on Windy Valley Road, and from what I saw (through) pictures it was pretty bad. I know of one person that hiked out over dutch mtn to get out. Luckily I got word that our camp is ok - no major damage. I am heading up on Monday and planning on parking as close as I can and hiking/mountain biking in to see how bad it is and make sure there isn't water in the Cabin. Could put a real damper on hunting season if access isn't opened until Dec. I had a week long archery trip planned for late Oct.

I read online that Penndot was trying to get a temporary bridge up asap for the residents that live on the road and also the school children. I hope nothing is wrong with your camp.

Re: Forkston, Pa flooding

Yes it will. But the second bridge on windy valley at the base of the mountian is also out from what I am being told. I am not sure how dutch mountian road is. I think the cabins on the stream side of windy valley rd might have taken a hit but my grandfathers cabin is up on a hill so I think those guys would be ok. Saw the news report on channel 16 recongized several cabins and properties what I wasnt good.

Re: Forkston, Pa flooding

Dutch Mtn. was graded at the end of last week, as the bridge on 487 in Lopez is out. The large bridge on Windy Valley Rd, where the 90 deg. turns are, was totally fricken obliterated. As was the other end of the road, in Bellasylva. I swear, you couldn't tell the road ever existed. I went out just driving around, as our ambulance service covers that entire area. The road is gone, and there were so many trees down, it was like what once was the road made an abrupt end at sheer wilderness. It was the most amazing sight, disaster wise. It was really unexpected, b/c they forecast "about an inch or two" of rain. And the headwaters of the Loyalsock, Little Loyalsock and Mehoopany creeks just got hammered. We have 6-8" of rain in a period of about say five hours. The wind came suddenly, 3:28am. I was in the Mildred fire hall, there was no wind, no rain. Sudden deluge, and the wind was at 62 peak on the Kestrel. Power lasted till around 11am, then was off for six hours. The areas around the North-South mountain range seemed to take the worst hit, flash flood wise, in this part of PA. The creeks rose 5-12', in a very short period of time.

The rumor is that they did, but not in a good way.
