Black Snakes

What's the best way to keep them away from your property. Found one in the basement and I want no parts of them in the house.
I like them best when they are in someone else's woods.

Can't keep them away from your property, but I'm assuming there's a way into your basement and they found it. Check for cracks and holes, open windows etc. Me...I like'm around the outside. Not inside though.

Here's our cabin Black snake. A full 5' long.

Re: Black Snakes

Well, they are probably there because of a food source. Mice come to mind. Kill the mice and they will go elsewhere. On the otherhand, be happy that they are there and not copperheads.

Good night Chesty, wherever you are......

Re: Black Snakes

We've had one for quite a while now. Recently one of the neighbor's wife came down while he was at work and wanted us to kill a snake in their garage. When my son saw it was a black, he brought it down to our barn. Don't see many chippies or mice around here.

Be thankful you have him, he's more beneficial than harmful.
If you still want to try and keep him away, from your house or other buildings, your property if not too large, try a product called snake away. It can be found at Tractor Supply, and others, comes in a power form that you sprinkle around the perimeter. You may aft to reapply ever so often or after a heavy rain.

Re: Black Snakes

Never had a black snake chew anything up in our camp. I'll send you our mice and chippies - oh, that's right, we don't have any.

Re: Black Snakes

Have been told that if you release a black snake in your
barn that you will seldom if ever see it, and your rodent
problems will be nil.
