updating electrical service in mobil home

I need to replace the electrical service from the weather head and update from fuses and 50 amp to a 100 amp box. What inspections will I need? BTW, It's an old mobile home camp.
Thanks for any advice you can give me.

Use a licensed and INSURED electrician ,they would have to get the permits if they are required in your area.

The power company will require a service inspection by an approved electrical inspector prior to energizing the new service. The Power company generally can advise you of qualified inspectors in your area.

Mobile homes typically have the meter and disconnect at the pole. Not mounted on the mobile home. Is your service and meter mounted on the mobil home?

No, the meter socket is mounted on the pole and has as double fuse box below it. I will be installing everything fro the weather head down to the meter and through underground conduit up into the trailer.

I have done some framing inside the trailer itself and i am planning on running all new wire to rplace the aluminum and just burying any existing wire that I can't cut out easily.-The trailer was made in 1971.

Who owns the pole that the existing service is on? Make sure the pole is good. When i did mine the inspector made me put a new pole in the ground first. I owned the pole. Most likely you own yours as well.

I suppose I own the pole? The wires go from it to the trailer and no where else.

Re: updating electrical service in mobil home

check with the power company. they will have to come out & disconnect the power feeding that weatherhead (transformer). plus they can tell you who owns the pole. def. call them & tell them what you want to do before you do anything. if you are around when they show up, they will help you out with questions.

Re: updating electrical service in mobil home

Got my part of it done today-weatherhead, entrance cable, meter socket, new grounding rods, etc... Penelec has been faxed the number they gave me to give the inspector. They are supposed to come out and switch the power over to the new weatherhead once they get the number.

Seems pretty straight forward after talking to Penelec and the inspector. It's not completed yet, so I don't want to count my chinckens before they hatch.
