Surveillance Camera Notice

My brother has had his house and property robbed 3 times in the last 3 weeks. They know who did it but can't prove it. I gave him some of my trail cams to use but the PSP told him he had to put up signs that surveillance cameras were in use. Otherwise the pics would not hold up in court. He agreed it was a stupid law too. I know a bunch of us have cams set up on our camps. I guess I'll get some signs up soon. They may be on the back side of the trees but hey, I didn't know which way the robber was coming from.

I would check on that with the DA before I took that PSP officers word. There are no signs in many towns and cities or on many businesses that have security cameras. I do not think that officer knows what he is talking about. Why would a property owner have to warn criminals they will be filmed? There is a big difference between recording someones voice and recording pictures in a place where they have no expectation of privacy.

Yes that doesn't seem right to me. The main reason to put up those signs is if you hope to deter the action from happening.

After we got broke into, I put up an Arlo system. Totally wireless and it notifies me when a camera is tripped. Really easy to look and see what is going on.

Traditions only last if you pass them down to your kids!

Catch him or them on camera, then put up the signs.

B.S. You don't need no stinking signs. Private property.

He knows who did it? Did he tell the police who did it? Did they investigate the burglary. Finger prints etc?

Yes. PSP investigated, all 3 times. Followed foot prints in the snow, house to house but none of the stolen property was at the residence.

You can have cameras and do not have to post signs. What you can't do is tape / record audio in connection with your cameras.

There are two ways to be fooled. One is to believe what isn't true; the other is to refuse to believe what is true.
