Loggers

I've been pouring minreals out for the deer in some spots by my camp for ten years. Some of the holes the deer made are a foot deep. LAst week, I go up and a loggong operation has gone through and there are small trees and slashings burying all my spots. I dont even think the deer can get to them. Oh well.

Re: Loggers

Yeah just move it to a new spot that's open enough for them to get into. They'll find it... if you're worried they won't, pour some molasses or some of those scented mineral attractants.. Either way, they'll find it.

Re: Loggers

These are major trees that apparently were in the way. Mostly, they left hemlocks and pines laying around. They created a huge mess which, I supposze, will actually benefit the deer. By "small trees" I mean small only compared to the ones they actually took from the site.

Yeah, I'll create new spots. I've never put that stuff down and NOT had the deer tear it up (exactly the opposite around my home-here the deer ignore it).

Re: Loggers

But don't get caught hunting any where near it. You will have residue from the old ones and new ones now and you will limit the area you can hunt

Re: Loggers

They logged the area just after the gravel pit to just before Camp Lone Wolf over 10 years ago and the new trees are way smaller than they should be by now. Lots of sun too.

Re: Loggers

Since you did not know about the logging, I am assuming that the land does not belong to you. Please get the land owner's permission before putting anything out on their land. I'm sure the land owner would be missed if they get fined for hunting over bait that they didn't even know was there. That very thing happened to a friend of mine, and as a result his 600 acres are now posted NO HUNTING.
