First trip to Potter!!!...Suggestions?

Got a call from a friend a bit ago, after some small talk it seemed neither of us had plans for the weekend.
She made a quick call to her dad to see if the cabin was available.....

IT'S ON!!!

This certainly isn't a well planned excursion, but I couldn't turn down the chance!!!
The cabin is southwest of Germania, close to Little Kettle Creek so the fishing gear is definately getting packed!!!

This is only her 2nd trip up in 20+ years so neither of us are real familiar with the area.
Any suggestions on some 'must see' sights in the area??

Like I mentioned, this is a thrown-together,grab-n-go weekend, but I'm not complaining...sometimes those last minute plans make for the best memories!!!

I'm really lookin' forward to seein' what all the fuss about Potter Co. is!!

Water levels over on the big pine are perfect to canoe or raft down thru the canyon. Right now they are around 3.5'. Ideally 2.5' is really good which it may drop to around 3' or so by the weekend. You can rent canoes/kayak/raft here Pine Creek Outfitters . What we like to do is pay the extra money and have them drive our vehicle to the point that we will be getting off the river so when we get there we can just leave and not have to wait for the van to pick us up. You should call now though to reserve something as with this water and a holiday weekend they will go quick.
Also check out the lumber museum up on Rt 6. Check out the website PA Lumber Museum Driving the backroads and seeing the vistas are always nice as well.

You will be close to the PA Grand Canyon so thats a must see. You can check out the PA Lumber Museum if thats something you are interested in. But go to this website for all the info you could ever need.

Just enjoy Potter County's beauty!

We used to take the kids swimming at Lyman Lake and tubing down the Pine Creek in the summer.

I used to like fishing Lyman Run and West Branch of Pine Creek. Long Run over by Gaines in Tioga Co was a favorite too.

The store in Germania used to have killer cheese!

Man I need to get back up there!!!!

If you continue to do what you're doing, you'll only get what you have gotten.

I'll 2nd what Pigger said. All you have to do is open your eyes to enjoy the area! Big mountains, crystal clear streams, quiet, clean, refreshing. Have a great weekend and take a camera along or you will regret it!

Depending on the weather, check out Cherry Springs State Park after dark. It is set up for star gazing. One of the darkest places on the east coast. If you want to see millions of stars, hope for some clear weather and dark skies.

Nothing better than a November night, with no moon up there. I swear you can reach out and touch the stars.

Re: First trip to Potter!!!...Suggestions?

I've never seen the starts at Cherry Springs but I've seen them near my camp like that. Sometimes I set up my pop-up blind for turkey in a field near camp around midnight. It's amazing how the lack of light pollution up there really makes the stars pop out! It don't get DARK like that in Lancaster county.

If you continue to do what you're doing, you'll only get what you have gotten.

The costant headlights from water trucks and the faint glow of Marcellus rigs will have that ruined in no time so come on up and enjoy it before its gone.
