Old barn wood?

The foundation on our old barn is crumbling, It looks like it may be cheaper for us to put up a pole barn, then fix the old one (also needs a roof). Anyone know if the barn wood is worth anything. It's about 40x32.
Anyone know of someone who sells/builds pole barns.

Re: Old barn wood?

Search the web, there are several major companies that buy them to dismantle. If the structure is very old, you have a goldmine in antique lumber. If the barn is newer, with hemlock beams, it is not worth a match to burn it. Look and see if the beams are hand hewn, if so, its old. If the beams are sawn, it probably is not worth much. Don't take anybodies word for it, find out yourself. If your barn has chestnut beams, its worth a college fund ! You can take a sample of the wood to the forestry service, they will tell you what you have. Good luck.
