Recruiting New Members

We have been trying for the past few years to find new members for our hunting camp, kinda run out of options as far as friends etc to join, so we are thinking of trying to recruit on here and other hunting groups/message boards. This has some concerns for me as we are a fairly tight knit group and run the place with few if any problems but we have all known each other for years. Our main concern is getting the wrong guy and they being stuck with him (the camp is a none profit where the members are share holders) So Im thinking of ways to protect us should we go this route, letters of reference and criminal background check are two of them, but Im also concerned that this seems a little heavy handed, after all its a camp where we see each other 4 or 5 days a year. Anyone have some thoughts on this matter?

Re: Recruiting New Members

Two hunting season probation period. You will know after two full seasons if they are a good fit or not.

There's hunting and there's hunting with a good dog

Re: Recruiting New Members

We did that (one year) with the last guy we took in but he has been a friend of mine since dirt and a squadron commander in the Air Force, no sleep was lost with him. I do like the 2 year thing, give everyone a chance to hunt with him.

Make sure whatever you do you have it in writing and signatures. Do the 2 hunting season thing and put it up to a vote, have to get x amount of votes to stay on. No voting rights during probation.

Re: Recruiting New Members

2 hunting seasons and written documents. When I was in a camp in Potter years ago,we found out in a real hurry when a work weekend was scheduled. If they showed up,we learned more about the guy than we did hunting...Good luck
