Boat At Camp

Hi! Do any of you guys keep a boat at camp? I am thinking about getting a 14-16 footer to leave there. Does anyone do this? Best way to keep it secure. What boat type would be better for the Allegheny around Tionesta. Modified V or John. I will probably end up with a 10-20hp motor on it.

Thanks!

Rick

Re: Boat At Camp

I use to keep a boat at Camp but sold it.
I would go with a Semi V if you plan on fishing lakes and a John if your fishing rivers.
I kept it chained up and never had a problem.

Re: Boat At Camp

I have a 14 ft jon boat with an 8hp prop that I've taken to camp a few times. The river is deep from aboat Hallers to the bottom of the sand and gravel island with shallow riffles on either end. If you want to fish more than that you will be better off with a jet motor, or will hqve to get out and push. A 16 footer is probably a better option for stability and if you take it to tionesta lake you won't have to wear life jackets all the time. All boats less than 16 are required to wear pfds on all army corps lakes.

I'd be looking for a 16ft with a jet for that area!

Re: Boat At Camp

If you want to fish the rivver at Tionesta and not be restricted to the stretch from Eagle Rock to the base of Lighthouse Island, better get a boat that drafts shallow and a jet motor would be best.

I take my bass boat up for Tionesta or Kinzua lake and keep the kayaks or canoes up there for the river or Tionesta Creek.

Re: Boat At Camp

Thanks for the input How is it from the golf course to henry's bend. It looks pretty deep.

Re: Boat At Camp

If you're going to run the river stick with a jet motor, semi V no deep V's.

Take a wheel off of the trailer for security.

Re: Boat At Camp

I keep an old aluminum 12 ft semi v up at camp. Bought it for a couple hundred on craigslist with trailer, motor, seats and emergency equipment. Has a trolling motor that gets me around the small lakes around me just fine. Also don't have to deal with motor winterization issues. Trailer hitch lock and a chain. Although, I have a neighbor that shoots first and asks questions later. It's perfect for the few voyages it makes in the summer each year. And very little expense.
