Perry Co. camp 1st trip of 2015

Made my 1st trip of 2015 to my camp in Perry Co. NE Madison township. The camp is up near the top of a mountain. I was really surprised to find about 10 inches of snow on the ground up there. At the bottom there was less than 5 inches. This was just a one day trip to check on the camp since the last time I was up was in deer season. I did a few small jobs. My wife and I went to breakfast at the Blain Hotel after starting the heater up. We stopped at Stoney Ridge Foods on the way back, we can always find lots of cheap things there that we can't do without. Left camp about 4:30 and went to Hollywood Casino before going home. That is how I get my wife to ride along up in the winter time, bribe her with a trip to the casino.

We also enjoy the Blain Hotel for food! Great coffee and they make an amazing burger! Did Books change hands yet? Heard rumors that it was sold.

Are we at camp yet?

YH, great to hear of your little escapade to camp; and that everything went well. Book's and the Blaine hotel are always favorite stopping places for me....but BTW, where is "Stoney Ridge Foods"? I'm not familiar with that one.

Re: Perry Co. camp 1st trip of 2015

I didn't go in Book's Store but there was a sign on the door that said Under New Management so I guess it did change hands.
Stoney Ridge Foods is at 532 Emory Green Road Loysville. Coming from Loysville on Rt. 850 west it's probably about 4 or 5 miles. After you turn right on 850 across Shermans Creek you go maybe 2 1/2 miles and turn left on Emory Green Road, there is a sign for the store there and a big church on the right, go about a mile and the store is on the left. From Blain heading towards Loysville go past Paradise Stream Campground road and at the top of the hill at the Garage turn left on Emory Green Road and stay on that road until you come to the store on the right. It's a discount food store owned by an Amish family. I go there almost every time I'm up there. You can get some good buys there. I usually stock up on cheese, candy, turkey snack sticks, tea bags and coffee K-cups when they have them. Some of the items are past the sell by dates that is why they are cheap. I don't buy anything that is too far past the date.

Yes Books changed hands at the end of December. Nathan and Becky are going to help them get going then they are going to take some time off. Nathan said that he might come back to help out after a vacation.

I sure hope he maintains the sporting good section in there. Have yet to find anyone that can come close to his prices and the service is amazing!

YH, thanks for the info on Stoney Ridge Foods. Sounds like a place to definitely check out next time I'm at camp!

Re: Perry Co. camp 1st trip of 2015

Just curious if anyone has been to their Perry Co. camp lately, and how much snow is there in the western part of the county?

Re: Perry Co. camp 1st trip of 2015

I was in Blain and Germantown twice this year. They have a fair amount of snow. But since my wife dragged me out of Perry County kicking and screaming and put up in NEPA, Perry Co is always a little more mild than where I live now. I always try to remind folks not to forget a stop at King's Bakery just outside of New Germantown. Guaranteed to put you in sugar shock with warm sticky buns and donuts. And yes Book's has been sold but Nathan is still spending some time in there.
