Re: Potter/Costello area report?

Heading up tomorrow for a few days, talked to one of the guys up at camp this past week tonight and his daughter got a nice 8 pointer Tuesday. He told me me that also a lot of coyote action and he actually got one himself. I have been hearing coyotes a lot more up there in the last year. Our camp is up by Austin-costello gun club. Good luck to those guys going up, anyone heading to the tannery sat night?

Re: Potter/Costello area report?

Toughed it out till 1:30 on saturday, saw one deer, an absolute stud of a buck but between the darn thing clinging tight to the edge of the bench below us, the rain pouring down and washing out my sight picture, he made it all the way to the other side of the point, despite being in front of us for over 300 yards, he didnt get big by being stupid. Heading back up wednesday for the last 3 days.

Not many have been killed. Roads are almost impossible even with chains on all 4. Should be plenty left for the 2nd week guys.

Re: Potter/Costello area report?

I did notice the solid ice on the wellsboro bypass, had to put it in 4wd low to creep down the hills. How long have the dirt roads been that way? I will be taking chains up wednesday.

Re: Potter/Costello area report?

It started Tuesday with a quick coating of snow, then freezing rain on it. The roads got packed in from there. Freezing rain on Friday evening made them nearly impassable. I got one of the best laughs in a long time today when I was following a roadhunter who apparently didn't know he was going to have a hard time stopping going downhill. He bounced off one bank, corrected, bounced off the other bank, slid down and through the intersection and looped his truck. I stayed back just to watch. A short while later he pulled over, I assume to check his undies. Anyone who tries most of these roads without chains is stupid.

Iím a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more I have of it.

Re: Potter/Costello area report?

Sopos comment about the roads being impassable and saving bucks, makes me want to drive up to some of the places you cant get to from the bottom, guess that all depends on if we get into deer where we did on Saturday, we saw a ton of sign and that big buck and I dont need to chain up the truck to get there.

Re: Potter/Costello area report?

That's the problem when ya have bad weather up in Potter.
Some of the best areas are up on the Mtn.
Getting up there by truck can be next to impossible.
Or you can try it Billy Goat style and do the hump up by foot.
Your not getting up Wild Boy in those conditions.
