I hunt too hard at camp...

I sometimes think I hunt too hard..with the heavy rain I did not want to roll out of bed at 5Am, but i did. Got to the property and at 6AM thought about taking a nap in camp til the heavy rain stopped...Nope, no one gets one from camp I think, so off into the rainy darkness I go, get to my stand and sit thru 5 hours of rain and wind seeing nothing. Had to come back into town for an errand at 11, so I come out of the woods and go into camp to get my truck keys to get going and happen to look out the front window.....Hmmm guess i could of taken that nap til 10:45 at least ....LOL and no I did not shoot her, not yet anyway...

Maybe the expression you can't shoot them from the couch needs to be changed

You just need a nice big rocking chair on that porch.

My great grandfather used to hunt out of our camps back window. He was also 95 lol. I think he just pretended to hunt but in reality he just napped all day. Hahaha

Re: I hunt too hard at camp...

Always happens that way. Years back, we had a couple acres of corn and clover behind the shop. Last day, last couple minutes of muzzle loader, after not seeing anything to shoot for the season, my old man decided it was time to unload the muzzle loader. So he took a step behind the shop, pointed her down range in a safe area and ppffft BANG! All of a sudden the corn field lit up!! Deer running everywhere!! Who knew they found their safe haven right behind the shop

Re: I hunt too hard at camp...

Well, I can't exactly say I've been hunting too hard. More like hardly hunting. Had some surgery a week before bow seaon and docs orders were no driving or lifting over 5 lbs. After that was lifted, managed to get a ladder stand up out behind the new camp and actually get in it a few times. Deer all around but no shot opportunity yet. Lots going on at the camp between rainouts and lots of deer under the stand while work gets done on the addition as I mostly watch but no opportunites when I'm actually hunting.
Frustrating on both ends. Hunting and working on camp are not much fun as spectator sports!

Re: I hunt too hard at camp...

Same type season here bt..well short of the recovery, wishing you the best there. I see lots of deer but not from stand and although I have had a chance or too to take a shot at a doe while walking in or out, it has not been the type of moment I want for that or I am walking out cause i need to be somewhere, not tracking a deer.

The good news is from here on out, love should be in the air and there is no better time to say "only takes a second" then the PA rut.
