Buck stove insert?

Looking into a Buck stove 21 insert for the fireplace of our house. Anyone have any experience with Buck stoves?

You just shot an unarmed man. Well he should have armed himself!!! Clint Eastwood.

Re: Buck stove insert?

I have a free-standing Buck at camp and I'm looking to replace it. Compared to my Quadra-Fire (home stove) or just about any quality modern stove, the Buck is a piece of junk.

The fire box is poorly designed. The plate that sticks out the front is much to close to the loading doors, any amount of debris or ash that builds up causes the doors to close with difficulty or not at all. It's hailed as an air-tight stove but is far from it. Just an overall poorly designed, poor function stove.

Eh...wot?

Re: Buck stove insert?

I've had a Buck Stove insert in our fireplace at home for well over 20 yrs. We use it every winter and burn 3-4 cords per season. Totally satisfied with it. Replaced the seal around the door a couple of times along with the pins on the door hinges and also need to replace the grates every couple of years. Other than that its been good. I'd buy another one. May get one for the camp in a couple of years.

Re: Buck stove insert?

Buy the Stove you'll be glad you did! I bought a buck stove insert mod 21 last year and it burned flawlessly. Very well engineered and super quality. I have owned several wood burning stoves (quadra fire, Avalon) but what you get for the money compared to the quadra fire is a no brainer. The quads are hopelessly over engineered, over hyped and way OVERPRICED! Buy the Buck they work great!
