Re: water at camp??

Are you saying your camp is not plumbed but rather have an old school hand pump outside for water?

Re: water at camp??

Do,yourself a favor and Never ever ever use a hot water tank. We went through at least 5 in a 15 year period. They are wasteful and rust out quickly leading to leaks.

I installed a propane on demand hot water system cheaper thank a water tank costs and we never run out of hot water. Just drop a pump in the well and pump it to the on demand heater and you will have plenty of hot water.

Use all pex for plumbing and it's dirt cheap and last a whole lot longer than copper or PVC will.

Up where you are the water is rusty all the time. I have one which is actually connected to my water the same as at home. Not sure how long it will last, as it is used. Pex is definitely the way to go up there.

Re: water at camp??

DD
We have a ton of iron in the water. The only way to fix that was to use 2 inline water filters, 5 microns. I run he water for about a half hour then change the first filter and the water is clean for the whole trip. Of course I don't drink it but it's fine for showering and dishes.
You can buy the filters dirt cheap off ebay. Way cheaper than lowes or Home Depot.

Re: water at camp??

We just replaced the original hot water heater that was in the camp in 1970 last year, if your going thru 1 every 3 years something is very very wrong!

Re: water at camp??

Yes something was wrong.... A whole lot of iron in the water kept rusting the elements making pinholes

Re: water at camp??

huh, never heard of that. It was rusting the elements, or where they are screwed in?

Re: water at camp??

We've had minimal problems with our tank up camp. Burnt out a few elements but that's just maintence that needs done. Ours been in since the early 90's with no holes. We also drain the water out of the tank almost everytime were not up there.
