Forest County; Route 666 Mayburg bridge

Penn DOT has closed 666 from Mayburg to Kellettville. The road by Frog Rock is completely gone from 4.5 inches of rain last night. The Mayburg bridge also sustained severe damage, so much so that my Penn DOT buddy told me it may be condemned-very bad news for the dozens of camps that sit across the Tionesta in the old village of Mayburg.

To add to the problem it is uncertain who owns the bridge as it is not thought to be a state bridge-probably Kingsley Township?

Anyone traveling 666 east from Kellettville needs to find an alternate route....

Wow, that's a lot of rain. How high is Tionesta Creek in the Kellettville area. We were just up to Frog Rock last week.

666 down to Mayburg is fine....don't know about the Blue Jay road...but assume it's OK....

Tionesta Creek was almost over its banks in spots this morning. Rain stopped around noon today...

Is there any other access road to the camps at Mayburg. I remember years ago I took an old road up over the mountain from I believe what was Job Corps Road and came in the back way, but the road was very rough, muddy, and my map had listed four-wheel drive vehicles recommended.

Well, I guess my plans of swimming at frog rock this year are probably down the tubes. My place is at the top of forest rd. 116 which hits 666 right past the Mayburg bridge. I'll be up there next week and will give any updates if I can. I think Forest rd. 449 runs into 116 and it will take you down towards Kelletville. If your looking for an alternate route.

That's the only other way in....and it is a mess near the bottom...only high clearance vehicles as it is washed out and full of rocks....I'm guessing the heavy rain made it even worse....that road is Howe Twp's and it is not maintained....

Re: Forest County; Route 666 Mayburg bridge

The back way in to Mayburg is quite long either from Bluejay Rd or from Abraxas and a turn at Deadmans corners and maintenance on the stretch down the hill into Mayburg has always been iffy.

Just went over Tionesta creek at town about three bhours ago and it was as high as I've ever seen it since the 60's

My brother was just there yesterday and said the road #666 is washed out going into Mayburg like the road is gone washed out underneath. Get a better report today when he gets home.

Re: Forest County; Route 666 Mayburg bridge

The guy who maintains the Mayburg Facebook page posted that traffic has been using the bridge....that might change when Penn DOT bridge inspectors look at it this coming week....
