Report from Sproul

Just returned from 3.5days at camp. If anyone was curious, it is still winter in the Hyner-Renovo area. There is still 8-10 inches of snow around the camp with some layers of ice mixed in. The south facing slopes are bare in some spots, but the hollows I attempted to walk were still a mess. Morning temps were still in the mid teens but 40ish in the afternoons. We saw six flocks of turkey and 28deer(more than I saw during last fall). Friday morning at 3am we had a small pack of coyotes sounding off behind the camp. Howls, barks, yips, lasted for over ten minutes. Thanks to the MS gas folks, Dry Run Road is being plowed, so it was drivable(if you have a camp along that road). Had to rough it a little since we had no running water. The heat tape on the in line is still working, but I'm guessing we lost power for a couple days recently.
The local feedback on trapping was a below average harvest due to weather conditions. Bear harvest was below average due to lack of food.

Re: Report from Sproul

Thanks for the report. Glad to hear some of the deer and turkey survived up there during this winter.

Re: Report from Sproul

Wow, 28 deer the heard must be coming back up there. That is more deer than I saw in the 8 years that I owned my property up. Lol

How is the Sportsman bar doing. Boy I put many loads on in that place and had to get a 15 dollar room upstairs because I could not drive back to camp.

Re: Report from Sproul

I tried to make it up Sandy 2 weeks ago but no luck. Whoever went up before me made a mess of the road and the ruts were just too much to risk.

Re: Report from Sproul

I've driven by Dry Run road a hundred times and always wondered what it was like back in there. I just looked it up on google maps. Looks like you guys had a really quiet piece of paradise until all of those gas wells popped up. Although, the road is much more passable than what it looked like years ago at the bottom. Looks like quiet a few trucks travel up and down that road nowadays.

Re: Report from Sproul

Woodsman, didn't make it out to Sinnemahoning.
Pigsty, if you want to see impact of the MS gas, look up Eagleton Rd, just off west 120, outside of LockHaven.

Beezer, thanks for the update. You're in one of my favorite areas of the state. I hope when the weather warms, you're able to have many enjoyable times at camp
