Re: new hunting ground info

Where is your lease at? I've hunted that area every year and know it very well. There are areas that have very few deer and the good areas have average deer populations. It does not have exceptional populations. It is hunted heavily and even so called private areas will see encroachment by other hunters especially the Amish. The "Big Valley" is very close by. ( A lot of Amish). If you are searching for an area that has trophy potential, this is not it. But it is a very beautiful area. Enjoy your experience!

My buddy owns a cabin behind Whipple dam lake on the rothrock SF, it's just past the lake and the "shale pit" ? Appreciate any help with areas that might hold some deer , gonna do some heavy scouting this year! Thanks

Re: new hunting ground info

That area gets hammered. I would try to get high up on the mountain in the thick stuff on the main Tussey Mountain ridge somewhere off of Pine Swamp or Laurel Run Road. You won't get away from the other hunters totally but that would be your best chance at seeing deer.
There are fewer deer in your area the further you get from the State College valley. The interior of the Rothrock does not hold much wildlife and the Amish shoot everything on the Big Valley side.
A very pretty area you are going to. But, not so good for the hunting. Very crowded with hunters and marginal habitat.
