Political Correctness

Thought I’d seen it all but this takes the cake.

There is a current Dodge Truck commercial where a bow hunter is leaning against a log in his makeshift camp catching a little shuteye for the evening when across the creek a cricket begins chirping, disturbing the hunter sleep. So he gets up, grabs his bow and shoots an arrow across the creek, killing the cricket (it is implied that he kills the cricket as it stops chirping). He settles back into his knap and a bullfrog chimes in wakening him once more and that’s the end of the piece.

Well wouldn’t you know it? The implication that the cricket is killed must be too much for the PC police as of late the commercial has been edited on most channels cutting the cricket sound out, and making it appear that the hunter just wakes up and shoots an arrow across the creek, at random one must suppose.

I did see the on the Sportsman Channel though that the cricket sound still remains; I guess us heartless blood thirsty sportsman are not offended by the thought of someone killing a poor defenseless cricket.

Re: Political Correctness

I saw that commercial a good number of times when it was still being shown in it's entirety. I remember thinking that with the way things are in this day and age someone is going to make a fuss about it. Haven't seen the edited version but I guess I was right.

Re: Political Correctness

They could have left the cricket sound and just added a disclaimer:

"No actual crickets were harmed in the filming this Advertisement".

Re: Political Correctness

Anyone remember the Chrysler commercials that PETA made a big deal about it. Chrysler came up with a creative way of dealing with it.

Re: Political Correctness

I remember MAD magazine one issue had a picture on the cover of a puppy with a gun to its head and the caption read "if you don't buy this magazine we will blow this dogs brains out".

Re: Political Correctness

I wonder how these people drive without having a breakdown from all the bugs splattering against the window.

They're all driving a Prius, which we know cannot go fast enough to harm a mayfly.
