QDMA Urges Hunters in Seven States

Quote:
“Some argue this is an innocent endeavor with no negative impacts to wild deer or the everyday deer hunter. As CEO of North America’s leading whitetail conservation organization, I emphatically and unapologetically disagree,” said Brian Murphy, QDMA’s Chief Executive Officer. “Not only does this industry undermine the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation in which wildlife is a public resource, it also threatens the health of wild deer and the public’s perception of hunting.”
Folks can read this one and come to their own conclusion. To me this sounds like sour grapes from opposite ends of the spectrum. Both deer farmers and QDMA types have alot riding on the outcome depending how it turns out.

Well it won't matter much in PA. The deer farmers lobbied to be under the control of Dept of Ag instead of the PGC because they knew there is not much control or enforcement of rules by Dept of Ag. They got it.

I dunno....it just seems to me QDMA is pitching a fit because they are losing some clout with each new deer farm. CWD is inevitable and will reach PA sooner or later. They claim CWD follows these deer operations but I would also be curious how CWD corrolates with the "Let them grow, let them go" mantra in alot of the states that have it.

Not a scientist, however, many instances of CWD have been proven to have originated at captive breeding programs. The breeders move deer around with pretty much impunity and one infected deer moved to another location for breeding purposes can easily spread the disease. If every breeder followed the protocol for certified CWD free herds it would be different, however, they don't all do it.

Agreed.

If you enjoy hunting please find a way to give back to the sport. Our children will thank you.

Well I have to agree with Murphy on this one. Besides who needs breeders and such. We all know genetics is not important, all you have to do is age them and they all get to be big. What fool would pay for genetics when age is the fix all. Waugh!

AR is only a pacifier. You will never grow if it's not in your genes.
