BOC Meeting Thread
January 22, 2012
Good afternoon President Weaner, Commissioners, Executive Director Roe, staff and guests. My name is Chuck Lombaerde and I am the President of the Pennsylvania Federation of Sportsmenís Clubs (PFSC).
PFSC would like to re-clarify, that although our delegates have some concerns with the current wording in HB 1760, our position on the transfer of regulatory authority for Sunday hunting, from the Legislature to the PGC, is still one of support for that transfer. We believe the PGC is the appropriate regulatory authority who should be deciding if, when and where Sunday hunting should be allowed, based on a wildlife management decision like all other seasons and bag limits.
We would like to-express dissatisfaction for HB 2034 Antlerless Committee to supersede the PGC.
This-is far more than more deer. It is giving up independent control of deer management to politicians only concerned about the next donation and election. The very same people we clamor about being out of touch and out of control - will now have the final say in deer management if this passes.
When the legislature has control of hunting or hunting issues - we all suffer. We only need to look at other states and look at the losses where this happens.
Now to the subject of deer culling. A culling is now taking place in a gated community in Pike County. As of today 77 deer have been culled and by the end of next week the goal is to cull 188 deer. The problem with this is that these deer are being lured out of DCNR land by using bait inside the private community.
No wonder there are a lot of complaints in this part of the county from the "No Deer" crowd.
Sharpshooters should not be allowed to use bait inside a private community to lure deer out of public hunting grounds. We urge the Board of Commissioners to look into this.
Thank you for your time and the opportunity to present our testimony here today. As always, the PFSC looks forward to a continued working relationship with the agency and commissioners.
