Land use break down?

Does anyone have the percentages for land usage in PA?

Public vs private? What percentage of land is actually owned by working farms in PA?

Re: Land use break down?

7.1 million acres of farmland.

1.4 million acres SGL's

2.4 million acres of state forests.

.5 million acres in the ANF.

Entire state is over 45,000 square miles, or about 29 million acres.

Re: Land use break down?

That leaves about 18 million acres unaccounted for. How much of that is in private woodland?

Add 11.7 million acres of private forest land to that.

We also now have 1.5 million acres of SGL.

So 5 million acres of public trust land (SGL's, SF, NTl. Forest)
7.1 million farm
11.7 million forest

23.8 million acres of huntable land.

Farmers have just about 1/4. It should also be noted that not all farmers oppose SH; and not all farmers are members of the PFB

I agree that not all farmers are against SH but it should also be noted that not all non farmer landowners favor SH and many people who are not members of PFB are against SH

Not in Bradford Co. most people that live around here are very aware of no deer and Bear hunting on sunday and after all thats what it's all about for the majority of the supporters and non-supporters alike.

True enough, jj, but it should be noted that when PFB commenced their campaign against the latest House bill to transfer SH authority to PGC, they were repeatedly quoted in the press as stating that 80% of landowners were opposed to any additional SH.

In fairness, it was pointed out that what they "meant", was to say 80% of PFB members were opposed to additional SH.

But they never attempted to clarify that perception in the press, until they were questioned about it at the first hearing at Seven Springs, if not mistaken?

Regardless, there are those in every segment of this haggle that oppose or support additional SH in PA, be they landowners, farmers or hunters. And a variety of reasons why.

How many members does the PFB represent?
